Are you looking for a boost to your immune system? And at the same time, mental, physical, and spiritual resilience? Cat’s Claw, also known as kattenkruid in Dutch, is known as a natural antidepressant and nootropic: it enhances focus and concentration. It has been used for over 2000 years by indigenous peoples to strengthen the immune system, combat inflammation, high blood pressure, promote digestion, alleviate asthma, and protect and enhance brain function. It lives up to its name; it scans your body and mind and, like a cat, hunts for imbalances.*

Cat’s Claw
Product Information
In the Amazon, the Cat's Claw plant is primarily known as Uña de Gato (literally the cat's claw) due to the small thorns at the base of its leaves. Since the 1970s, it has been increasingly researched in the West. While Peruvian tribes use it for a wide range of medicinal purposes, most herbalists in the US and Europe use it for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Cat's Claw helps protect joint cartilage and has been proven to help relieve joint pain, indicating its usefulness for people suffering from arthritis. Because it helps reduce inflammation, it is considered beneficial in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.*
Cat's Claw is also known as the "Opener of the Way" because it cleanses the entire digestive system and is very suitable for stomach and intestinal conditions (such as Crohn's disease, leaky gut syndrome, etc.). On a physical level, it acts as a cleanser, but on a spiritual level, it opens your intuition and provides clarity about your path to follow.*
The Beneficial Components
Cat's Claw is rich in three main groups of chemical compounds: alkaloids, terpenoids, and flavonoids. Some of the specific compounds found in Cat's Claw include:
- Mitraphylline: an alkaloid usually found in older leaves and known for its cancer-fighting effects and cell death induction in sarcoma and breast cancer cells.
- Rhynchophylline: an alkaloid obtained from the bark that helps with seizures, dizziness, numbness, and hypertension.
- Isopteropodine: an alkaloid obtained from the leaves with antimicrobial properties against (Gram-positive) bacteria.
- Uncarines (C, D, and E): a family of alkaloids found in the leaves with cancer-fighting properties, inducing cell death in leukemia cells.
- Hirsutine: an alkaloid found in young leaves that has blood pressure-lowering properties, relaxes blood vessels, and lowers overall blood pressure.
- Uncarine Acid: a triterpene extracted from the bark that is effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (H37Rv strain).
- Quinovic Acid: a triterpene acid compound extracted from the bark that lowers heart rate.
- Quinine Acid: has antioxidant properties, improves DNA repair, and has neuroprotective effects in the brain.
- Procyanidines: a flavonoid (phenolic compounds found in the leaves, stems, bark, and wood of U. tomentosa) with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties.
